The Design and Prototyping of a Medical Lifting Device

    Get PDF
The goal of this project was to design and prototype an affordable, mobile and more compact medical lifting device that can safely lift an immobile patient from a bed to a any given point without requiring an external electrical power source. The project aims to decrease the number of back injuries reported by nursing assistants, completing the lifting process mechanically opposed to manually. The final design was manufactured into a prototype made of Aluminum. In conclusion, the Medical Lifting prototype can lift up to 275 lbs. Additionally, when stored, fits inside a 33 in. X 25 in. X 60 in. cube. Finally, to increase the strength and safety of this device, the team made recommendations to redesign a more durable model in the future

Critical Role of Two-Dimensional Island-Mediated Growth on the Formation of Semiconductor Heterointerfaces

We experimentally demonstrate a sigmoidal variation of the composition profile across semiconductor heterointerfaces. The wide range of material systems (III-arsenides, III-antimonides, III-V quaternary compounds, III-nitrides) exhibiting such a profile suggests a universal behavior. We show that sigmoidal profiles emerge from a simple model of cooperative growth mediated by twodimensional island formation, wherein cooperative effects are described by a specific functional dependence of the sticking coefficient on the surface coverage. Experimental results confirm that, except in the very early stages, island growth prevails over nucleation as the mechanism governing the interface development and ultimately determines the sigmoidal shape of the chemical profile in these two-dimensional grown layers. In agreement with our experimental findings, the model also predicts a minimum value of the interfacial width, with the minimum attainable value depending on the chemical identity of the species

The role of free software in land administration plays a fundamental role due to its versatility to be studied, modified, distributed and improved, it is for this reason that this article exposes a vision of the concept of free software, and provides a description of the tools that intervene and facilitate land administration from a flow that starts from the management of databases, then describes the acquisition in the field by mobile device, also details the processes of editing and validation of information from desktop tools and ends in the deployment of data from web platforms. Finally, it concludes with the role that free tools can play within land administration and how they contribute to the definition of an agile and efficient multipurpose cadaster.

Endodontic re-treatment and restorative treatment of a dens invaginatus type II through new technologies

    Get PDF
Background: The complex anatomy of dens invaginatus makes access cavity to root canal system difficult, which has an impact on the prognosis of these teeth. A novel technique, based on new technologies, is proposed to make access cavity conservative and guided with minimal dental structure lost. Material and Methods: This case report shows the root canal retreatment and the endodontic surgery of a dens invaginatus type II in a left lateral upper incisor previously treated which was affected by a chronic apical abscess and an apical fracture. A Cone Beam Computed Tomography was performed to better diagnosis the dental anatomy. An intraoral scan was performed to get a digital 3D model. A computer-guided implant planning software was used to plan the access cavity and design the splint guided. Finally, the clinical crown was restored by a resin nanoceramic veneer made by a chairside system made up of an intraoral scanning unit and a grinding unit. Last, the authors carried through the endodontic surgery to extract the apical fractured fragment. Results: Follow-up appointments at 6, 12 and 18 months showed a radiographic reduction of the periapical lesion and absence of clinical signs. Conclusions: The splint guide allowed a guided and conservative access cavity to root canal system. It facilitates the root canal retreatment and improves the prognosis of the teeth with dental malformations

This study examines the strategies used through branding by presidential candidates in the context of the presidential election campaign in 2021 to strengthen their presence in peruvian population. The aim of this study is to analyze the application of the communication strategies of the presidential candidates political branding of the political parties: Juntos por el Perú and Renovación Popular during the first round of elections and its impact on young college students perception, through and analysis of political speech and graphic material on Instagram accounts of the political figures mentioned. The study reveals that said application it’s shown on the particular use of verbal and not verbal communication portrayed in the political speech and graphic material that consolidate their brand and character, which, although can be shown through positive perceptions of the young college students, there is still distrust to a certain extent when it comes to authenticity of the political candidates and the way they address the audiences

Development of PLA films loaded with grape vine cane extract for food packaging application

    Get PDF
A novel active film material based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA) loaded with antioxidant grape vine cane extract was successfully developed by compression-molding technique. PLA is a biodegradable and renewable polymer, which represents a valuable alternative to plastic packaging films, often associated with environmental problems. The physico-chemical properties of the composite films were investigated and the release of wine extract was confirmed by migration studies in 50% v/v ethanol/water food simulant. In addition, in vitro antifungal activity against Botrytis cinerea was investigated. Among all tested concentrations, 15% of extract was the most suitable in terms of mechanical, water vapor barrier and antifungal stability of the PLA film. The obtained results suggest that the material could potentially be used for extending the shelf-life of food products with high fat content

Colombian Forest Monitoring System: Assessing Deforestation in an Environmental Complex Country

    Get PDF
Colombia is a key actor related with the adoption of the relevant UNFCC provisions referred in the context of obtaining result-based payments for REDD+ actions. Since 2012, the Colombian Forest Monitoring System (SMByC, Spanish acronym) has generated wall-to-wall historical information about the deforestation process over the last 27 years at national and regional levels. The SMByC generates a methodology that integrates tools for the preprocessing and semi-automated processing of satellite imagery to detect and quantify the loss of forest cover by deforestation. Also, the SMByC has done an extensive literature review, collecting qualitative and quantitative information to identify how the drivers of deforestation (illicit crops, illegal mining and postconflict scenario) could result in an increased forest lost during a postconflict scenario. Given that Colombia is a country conformed by regions that have differentially socioeconomic and environmental conditions, the study shows how the methods could generate official information and specifies the context of deforestation process of those regions
